How to play Sudoku

Fill the 9×9 grid so every row, every column and every 3×3 box contains the digits 1 through 9 exactly once. Each puzzle starts with some digits given, and every Puzzle Lair Sudoku has exactly one solution you can reach by pure logic, no guessing required.

Start by scanning for digits that can only go in one cell of a row, column or box. When a cell has several candidates, use pencil notes to track them, then eliminate candidates as neighbouring rows and boxes fill in. Harder puzzles reward techniques like naked pairs and pointing pairs, where two cells sharing the same two candidates rule those digits out elsewhere.

Play easy puzzles to learn the rhythm, medium for a steady challenge, and hard when you want every deduction to count. Your solve times, streaks and personal bests are tracked on your free account, and the fastest solvers appear on the leaderboards.
