How to play Kakuro

Kakuro (also known as cross sums) is a crossword built from numbers. Fill every white cell with a digit from 1 to 9 so each horizontal and vertical run adds up to the clue printed at its head, and no digit repeats within a single run.

The magic combinations are your way in: a two-cell run summing to 4 can only be 1+3, and a four-cell run summing to 10 must be 1+2+3+4 in some order. Find runs where the clue forces a unique set of digits, then work the crossings, a cell shared by two runs must satisfy both. Longer runs and larger grids raise the difficulty without ever requiring guesswork.
